Gumbi Ortiz and the New Groove City

Gumbi Ortiz is known around the world for his exciting conga performance and his knowledge of rhythm and percussion. For the last 24 years Gumbi has been an integral part of superstar guitarist Al Di Meola’s band, he’s also a teacher, a session player and leader of Florida based “The Latino Projekt”. During the last 10 years, The Latino Projekt have grown from a revolving base of young musicians who’ve learned from and played with Gumbi, into a full blown band who record and perform hardcore timba and real Cuban salsa music. The band has released two successful albums, La Cura (2000) and Soy De Aqui (2005) and has toured throughout Florida and the Southeast. As the band continues to evolve and grow, so does the band’s sound. In 2011 The Latino Projekt officially became New Groove City to better reflect a more soulful direction the band has taken.

The Michael Ross Quartet

Get a good sound, swing hard and play the bass like a bass.
Ginger puts Ross’ bedrock musical qualities on vivid display: his far-reaching talents as a composer; an ability to incorporate his own playing, a sublime blend of muscle and fluidity, into an ensemble concept; and, when called for, to take center stage as a fleet and inventive soloist. Through it all, Ross never loses track of his instrument’s primal function — to provide the bass, the bottom end.

Hot Club of SRQ

The Hot Club of SRQ Quartet’s sound can best be described as a 21st century hybrid of the famous “Quintette du Hot Club de France”. The “QHCF” was the most interesting and important jazz ensemble to come out of Europe; however, remains a relatively unknown treasure in the United States. The treasured ensemble was born in 1934 when guitarist Django Reinhardt met violinist Stéphane Grappelli and began jamming in between Django’s dance band sets. Their group was named after the “Hot Club de France”, a meeting place for jazz musicians and fans in Paris.
